It also is the last size bracket of Akoya pearl before a more noticeable price jump, as above 8mm Akoya pearls become especially rarer particularly in top qualities.

Gem quality pearls represent the top .047% of all Akoya harvests across any sizes, and above 8mm is a lower percentage still -- these pearls are true rarities.
